Metal Work.
Capable of producing structures and elements to mechanisms from the large and heavy to the delicate and intricate. We are able to produce in many mediums of steel from elements in box, flat, angle and sheet. We often employ the use of laser and water jet cut components.
We are ever keen to develop new skills and practices and to broaden our capabilities. We look to be producing in aluminium very imminently and able to produce in luxury metals including brass, copper and stainless steel for those must have luxury elements.
Wood Work.
Our wood work department loves traditional wood working practices. We are capable of producing in a wide variety of woods including all the standard sheet and timber materials used in exhibitions and theatre productions. We often employ the uses of CNC machining to produce the sharpest and fastest production possible for our clients.
We are used to producing timber frames and flattage, display units and components, wood treatments and finishes, furniture, props, repairs and joinery.
Prop Making.
We are happy to explore various ways and receive new challenges based on any ideas or specific objectives you want to achieve for your project and design. Sculpting and carving in poly, clay, foams and even wood. A bespoke prop can start from there or from the mould making process with existing products in which we have experienced professionals happy to work with various materials and techniques, then onto casting with a variety of mediums such as cold cast, jesmonite, resin, plaster, latex/rubbers, sheet plastics and even foam! Our carpenters and fabricators are also on hand to build structures, with an option for CNC or laser cutting methods should either be the best approach to start a prop.
Our talented makers and artists can finish a prop to make something look like the real thing albeit being made unconventionally - experimenting with texturing and effects as well as applying tradition skills for the more traditional prop. We also offer experience in fabric work, sewing, dye, texturing, canvasing, costume props, and upholstery, even puppet making!
Finishes.
Offering you high attention to detail with traditional and standard finishes, familiar with all types of paints, glazes, varnishes as well as methods and techniques. Comfortable with colour matching and mixing. Knowledgable with traditional wood finishings/applications as well as finishes on the more modern materials like metal, plastics, fibre glass and even fabrics. Experienced in working and experimenting with textures and effects, using standard texture compounds, as well as liquids and chemicals for patina effects. Our artists are also confident with traditional and experimental decorative arts (leafing, faux painting, ageing effects…), with a passion to adapt and explore processes to achieve the best match to design.
Well connected to expert illustrators and scenic artists to provide you with a unique service for more bespoke and specific artworks and designs. We also have experience and can offer vinyl/decal work and applications.
Sustainable practice.
We are conscious of the amount of plastic wrap that is disposed of in the industry so tend to try and avoid using this method as packaging if it is possible or reuse what we can and think of different ways to transit projects around. (packing cloths, cardboard, paper bubble..)
We recycle as much of our waste at the correct facilities as our usual practice.
Our pre-existing venture of using disposed of scenery from the theatre industry to build bespoke furniture pieces - as we were both aware of how much ‘still good to use’ waste is produced from short even long running shows - is something we still practice as there was a good amount of interest with this idea. This, with elements from our own projects, recycling props or material we can use to make bespoke items or offer to donate to places (charities, schools) that can use off cuts and small sections. We have also made use of a lot of past projects going in the bin, setting up the workshop with benches and shelving.
